Determine Your Power Days
Now I won’t lie, this takes some advance planning, but there is no reason you can’t get started right away. You will need to gather the school schedules for the various school districts your practice serves and put together a list of the school holidays throughout the year. These are the days when schools are closed, but your practice plans to remain open (eg. Veteran’s Day, Columbus Day, MLK Day, and even Spring Break!) These are the days you will want to maximize your new patient exams and start appointments.
Create Your Power Day Schedule
Your Power Day schedule should be heavy on starts and production and light on debands, retainer deliveries and other long scheduling hogging appointment types that don’t pay the bills. It’s ok to leave some time in the afternoon for regular adjustment appointments and repairs, but make sure your morning is set up to start as many patients as possible. Also consider adding a few additional new patient exams during this time, and being prepared to offer a same day start. I suggest building a custom template in your practice management software that can be loaded for all Power Days in advance.
